The Public Works Department oversees the city’s streets, cemeteries and maintains city buildings. In addition to their regular daily assignments, during weather emergencies, crews are mobilized 24/7 to maintain and clear city streets.

Streets

The city maintains 60-plus miles of streets ensuring they are safe and passable. Some of the duties required to accomplish this include paving streets, patching potholes, snow and ice removal, mowing rights-of-way, trimming trees in the rights-of-way, installing and maintaining street and regulatory signs, and painting crosswalks and stop bars. The street department is also responsible for overseeing the Storm Water Management Plan, cleaning and maintaining storm sewers and catch basins along city streets and in city rights-of-way as well as mowing all public areas throughout the city.

Cemeteries

The city respectfully operates and maintains 4 cemeteries; Caldersburg, Oak Ridge, Roscoe, and South Lawn.

Caldersburg – The original town name for the Roscoe Village area is the oldest and considered a Civil War Cemetery, established circa the mid 1800’s. It no longer accepts interments. Located off State Route 541 just West of the interchange with State Route 16, it can be accessed via High Street in Roscoe Village.

Roscoe – Established circa 1842 and located high atop Hill Street in Roscoe Village it can be accessed via the heart of Roscoe Village. Limited interments still take place in the rolling hillsides.

Oak Ridge – Located at the North end of 6th Street in the city. A marker is located at the entrance for the first white settlers in Coshocton County (1799), Col. Charles Williams and his wife 1840.

South Lawn – The largest of the four cemeteries, located on the corner of South 6th Street and Browns Lane. New sections have been recently opened assuring future available space. Of the four cemeteries, this one is home to the designated “Soldiers Ground” veterans area.

All interments are scheduled weekdays by 3:00 pm unless a special request is made, with Saturday and Sunday services also available upon request. We have no public mausoleums and all caskets are required to have burial vaults. Four local funeral homes are the main care providers, three in the City of Coshocton; Free Funeral Home, Given-Dawson Funeral Home, Miller Funeral Home and Fischer Funeral Home in the Village of Warsaw.
